Chapter 1
На свою річницю Айлін і Том забронювали столик у найвідомішому ресторані міста.
For their anniversary, Aylin and Tom had booked a table at the most famous restaurant in town.
Меню було довге й складне, і офіціант терпляче пояснив кожну страву.
The menu was long and complicated, and the waiter patiently explained every dish.
На основну страву Том обрав «фірмове карі шеф-кухаря».
Tom chose “the chef's special curry” as his main course.
«Обережно, — сказав офіціант. — Воно дуже гостре».
“Be careful,” said the waiter. “It's very spicy.”
Том засміявся: «Без проблем. Я обожнюю гостру їжу».
Tom laughed: “No problem. I love spicy food.”

Chapter 2
Після першого шматочка обличчя Тома стало багряним.
After the first bite, Tom's face turned bright red.
Його очі наповнилися сльозами, і він випив три склянки води поспіль.
His eyes filled with tears, and he drank three glasses of water one after the other.
Айлін намагалася не сміятися, але не втрималася.
Aylin tried not to laugh, but she couldn't help it.
Том покликав офіціанта й ввічливо поскаржився: «Це занадто гостро, щоб їсти».
Tom called the waiter and complained politely: “This is too spicy to eat.”
Через кілька хвилин із кухні вийшов сам кухар.
A few minutes later, the cook himself came out of the kitchen.

Chapter 3

Він приніс нове карі й пригостив їх десертом за рахунок закладу.
He brought a new curry and offered them dessert on the house.
Після вечері він сів за їхній столик і розповів про свою молодість в Індії.
After the meal, he sat down at their table and told them about his youth in India.
Ідучи, Том залишив офіціантові щедрі чайові.
When they left, Tom gave the waiter a generous tip.
Відтоді вони ходять туди на кожну річницю, але Том тепер завжди просить «не гостро».
Since then, they go there every anniversary, but Tom always asks for “mild” now.
