Chapter 1
Клара місяцями планувала цю відпустку: тиждень біля моря на Мальті.
Clara had been planning this holiday for months: a week by the sea in Malta.
Рейс прибув вчасно, і вона приземлилася в аеропорту, сповнена енергії.
The flight was on time, and she landed at the airport full of energy.
Але біля стрічки видачі багажу вона чекала й чекала. Її валіза так і не з'явилася.
But at baggage reclaim, she waited and waited. Her suitcase never came.
На стійці загубленого багажу втомлений працівник перевірив її паспорт і квиток.
At the lost luggage desk, a tired employee checked her passport and her ticket.
«Ваша валіза в Осло, — сказав він. — Вона прибуде за два-три дні».
“Your suitcase is in Oslo,” he said. “It will arrive in two or three days.”

At the hotel, the receptionist saw her worried face and smiled kindly.
«Не хвилюйтеся. У моєї сестри є крамниця одягу біля пляжу».

Того вечора Клара купила купальник, дві футболки й легку сукню.
That evening, Clara bought a swimsuit, two T-shirts and a light dress.
Наступного ранку вона плавала в морі, поки її валіза ще подорожувала.
The next morning, she was swimming in the sea while her suitcase was still travelling.
