Chapter 1
У неділю в мами день народження, а Йонас досі не має подарунка.
It's Mum's birthday on Sunday, and Jonas still doesn't have a present.
У нього лише сорок євро, тож він іде до торгового центру.
He has only forty euros, so he goes to the shopping centre.
У першому магазині гарний шарф коштує шістдесят євро. Задорого!
In the first shop, a beautiful scarf costs sixty euros. Too expensive!
У другому магазині сорочки дешеві, але мамі не подобається цей колір.
In the second shop, the shirts are cheap, but Mum doesn't like that colour.
Йонас утомився і трохи засмутився. Що ж йому купити?
Jonas is tired and a bit sad. What can he buy?

Chapter 2
Потім він бачить маленьку букіністичну крамничку.
Then he sees a small second-hand bookshop.
На вітрині лежить стара кулінарна книга в зеленій обкладинці.
In the window there is an old cookbook with a green cover.
Йонас згадує: у мами була така сама книга, коли він був дитиною.
Jonas remembers: Mum had the same book when he was a child.
Вона загубила її, коли вони переїжджали.
She lost it when they moved house.
«Скільки коштує ця книга?» — питає він у старого чоловіка за прилавком.
"How much is this book?" he asks the old man at the counter.

Chapter 3
«П'ятнадцять євро», — каже чоловік. Йонас платить із широкою усмішкою.
"Fifteen euros," says the man. Jonas pays with a big smile.
За решту грошей він купує квіти й подарунковий папір.
With the rest of the money, he buys flowers and wrapping paper.
У неділю мама розгортає подарунок і нічого не каже.
On Sunday, Mum opens the present and doesn't say anything.
Потім вона відкриває книгу й бачить усередині своє ім'я: це її стара книга!
Then she opens the book and finds her own name inside: it is her old book!
Мама плаче й сміється водночас. Це найкращий подарунок у світі.
Mum cries and laughs at the same time. It's the best present ever.
