Chapter 1
Даниэль уже засыпал, когда зазвонил его телефон.
Daniel was about to fall asleep when his phone rang.
Незнакомый женский голос сказал: «Марко, это ты? Пожалуйста, не клади трубку».
An unknown woman's voice said: "Is that you, Marco? Please don't hang up."
Даниэль объяснил, что она ошиблась номером, но женщина продолжала говорить.
Daniel explained that she had the wrong number, but she kept talking.
Она сказала, что стоит на вокзале и опоздала на последний поезд.
She said she was at the station and had missed the last train.
Шёл дождь, батарея почти села, и ей было страшно.
It was raining, her battery was almost dead, and she was scared.

The station was only ten minutes from his flat.
«Ждите там, — сказал он. — Я иду с зонтом».
"Wait there," he said. "I'm coming with an umbrella."
Когда он пришёл, на платформе никого не было, кроме женщины в жёлтом пальто.
When he arrived, the platform was empty except for one woman in a yellow coat.
Она обернулась, и Даниэль не поверил своим глазам.
She turned around, and Daniel couldn't believe his eyes.

"Marco is my brother," she laughed. "I must have mixed up two numbers."
Они шли обратно под дождём под одним зонтом и вспоминали старые времена.
They walked back through the rain under one umbrella, talking about the old days.
Даниэль сварил горячий шоколад, и они проговорили до самого рассвета.
Daniel made hot chocolate, and they talked until the sun came up.
Иногда, думает Даниэль, неправильный номер — как раз правильный.
Sometimes, Daniel thinks, the wrong number is exactly the right one.
