Chapter 1
На годовщину Айлин и Том забронировали столик в самом известном ресторане города.
For their anniversary, Aylin and Tom had booked a table at the most famous restaurant in town.
Меню было длинным и сложным, и официант терпеливо объяснил каждое блюдо.
The menu was long and complicated, and the waiter patiently explained every dish.
На основное блюдо Том выбрал «фирменное карри шеф-повара».
Tom chose “the chef's special curry” as his main course.
«Осторожно, — сказал официант. — Оно очень острое».
“Be careful,” said the waiter. “It's very spicy.”
Том рассмеялся: «Без проблем. Я обожаю острую еду».
Tom laughed: “No problem. I love spicy food.”

Chapter 2
После первого кусочка лицо Тома стало пунцовым.
After the first bite, Tom's face turned bright red.

His eyes filled with tears, and he drank three glasses of water one after the other.
Айлин старалась не смеяться, но не смогла.
Aylin tried not to laugh, but she couldn't help it.
Том позвал официанта и вежливо пожаловался: «Это слишком остро, чтобы есть».
Tom called the waiter and complained politely: “This is too spicy to eat.”
Через несколько минут из кухни вышел сам повар.
A few minutes later, the cook himself came out of the kitchen.

Chapter 3

He brought a new curry and offered them dessert on the house.
После ужина он сел за их столик и рассказал о своей молодости в Индии.
After the meal, he sat down at their table and told them about his youth in India.
Уходя, Том оставил официанту щедрые чаевые.
When they left, Tom gave the waiter a generous tip.
С тех пор они ходят туда на каждую годовщину, но Том теперь всегда просит «не остро».
Since then, they go there every anniversary, but Tom always asks for “mild” now.
