Chapter 1
Domingo é o aniversário da mãe e o Jonas ainda não tem presente.
It's Mum's birthday on Sunday, and Jonas still doesn't have a present.
Só tem quarenta euros, por isso vai ao centro comercial.
He has only forty euros, so he goes to the shopping centre.
Na primeira loja, um lenço bonito custa sessenta euros. Caro demais!
In the first shop, a beautiful scarf costs sixty euros. Too expensive!
Na segunda loja, as camisas são baratas, mas a mãe não gosta daquela cor.
In the second shop, the shirts are cheap, but Mum doesn't like that colour.
O Jonas está cansado e um pouco triste. O que pode comprar?
Jonas is tired and a bit sad. What can he buy?

"How much is this book?" he asks the old man at the counter.

Chapter 3

With the rest of the money, he buys flowers and wrapping paper.
No domingo, a mãe abre o presente e não diz nada.
On Sunday, Mum opens the present and doesn't say anything.
Depois abre o livro e encontra lá dentro o seu próprio nome: é o livro antigo dela!
Then she opens the book and finds her own name inside: it is her old book!
A mãe chora e ri ao mesmo tempo. É o melhor presente de sempre.
Mum cries and laughs at the same time. It's the best present ever.
