Chapter 1
Ogni estate Elif va a trovare la nonna in un piccolo paese.
Every summer, Elif visits her grandmother in a small village.
La nonna fa la zuppa di pomodoro più buona del mondo.
Grandma makes the best tomato soup in the world.
Ma non dice mai che cosa c'è dentro. «È un segreto» dice sempre.
But she never says what is in it. "It's a secret," she always says.
Quest'anno Elif ha diciotto anni. Finalmente la nonna dice: «Oggi imparerai.»
This year, Elif is eighteen. Grandma finally says: "Today you will learn."
Si mettono il grembiule ed entrano in cucina.
They put on their aprons and go into the kitchen.

Chapter 2
Prima Elif taglia due cipolle e tre spicchi d'aglio.

Poi fanno soffriggere tutto nell'olio d'oliva in una pentola grande.
Then they fry everything in olive oil in a big pot.
Aggiungono pomodori, acqua, sale e un po' di zucchero.
They add tomatoes, water, salt and a little sugar.
«E adesso il segreto» sussurra la nonna, e apre una scatolina.
"And now the secret," Grandma whispers, and opens a small box.

Grandma writes the recipe on a small card and gives it to her.
«Adesso il segreto è tuo. Un giorno lo insegnerai ai tuoi nipoti.»
"Now the secret is yours. One day, you will teach it to your grandchildren."
