Chapter 1
Am Sonntag hat Mama Geburtstag, und Jonas hat noch kein Geschenk.
It's Mum's birthday on Sunday, and Jonas still doesn't have a present.
Er hat nur vierzig Euro, also geht er ins Einkaufszentrum.
He has only forty euros, so he goes to the shopping centre.
Im ersten Laden kostet ein schöner Schal sechzig Euro. Zu teuer!
In the first shop, a beautiful scarf costs sixty euros. Too expensive!
Im zweiten Laden sind die Hemden billig, aber Mama mag die Farbe nicht.
In the second shop, the shirts are cheap, but Mum doesn't like that colour.
Jonas ist müde und ein bisschen traurig. Was kann er nur kaufen?
Jonas is tired and a bit sad. What can he buy?

"How much is this book?" he asks the old man at the counter.

Chapter 3

With the rest of the money, he buys flowers and wrapping paper.
Am Sonntag packt Mama das Geschenk aus und sagt nichts.
On Sunday, Mum opens the present and doesn't say anything.
Dann schlägt sie das Buch auf und findet ihren eigenen Namen darin: Es ist ihr altes Buch!
Then she opens the book and finds her own name inside: it is her old book!
Mama weint und lacht gleichzeitig. Es ist das schönste Geschenk überhaupt.
Mum cries and laughs at the same time. It's the best present ever.
