Chapter 1
Chaque été, Elif rend visite à sa grand-mère dans un petit village.
Every summer, Elif visits her grandmother in a small village.
Sa grand-mère fait la meilleure soupe à la tomate du monde.
Grandma makes the best tomato soup in the world.
Mais elle ne dit jamais ce qu'il y a dedans. « C'est un secret », dit-elle toujours.
But she never says what is in it. "It's a secret," she always says.
Cette année, Elif a dix-huit ans. Sa grand-mère dit enfin : « Aujourd'hui, tu vas apprendre. »
This year, Elif is eighteen. Grandma finally says: "Today you will learn."
Elles mettent leur tablier et vont dans la cuisine.
They put on their aprons and go into the kitchen.

Chapter 2
D'abord, Elif coupe deux oignons et trois gousses d'ail.

Ensuite, elles font revenir le tout dans l'huile d'olive, dans une grande casserole.
Then they fry everything in olive oil in a big pot.
Elles ajoutent des tomates, de l'eau, du sel et un peu de sucre.
They add tomatoes, water, salt and a little sugar.
« Et maintenant, le secret », chuchote la grand-mère en ouvrant une petite boîte.
"And now the secret," Grandma whispers, and opens a small box.
