Chapter 1
بمناسبة ذكرى ارتباطهما، حجزت آيلين وتوم طاولة في أشهر مطعم في المدينة.
For their anniversary, Aylin and Tom had booked a table at the most famous restaurant in town.
كانت قائمة الطعام طويلة ومعقّدة، وشرح النادل كل طبق بصبر.
The menu was long and complicated, and the waiter patiently explained every dish.
اختار توم «كاري الطاهي الخاص» طبقًا رئيسيًا.
Tom chose “the chef's special curry” as his main course.
قال النادل: «انتبه. إنه حارّ جدًا.»
“Be careful,” said the waiter. “It's very spicy.”
ضحك توم: «لا مشكلة. أحب الطعام الحارّ.»
Tom laughed: “No problem. I love spicy food.”

Chapter 2
بعد اللقمة الأولى، احمرّ وجه توم بشدّة.
After the first bite, Tom's face turned bright red.
امتلأت عيناه بالدموع وشرب ثلاثة أكواب من الماء متتالية.
His eyes filled with tears, and he drank three glasses of water one after the other.
حاولت آيلين ألّا تضحك، لكنها لم تستطع.
Aylin tried not to laugh, but she couldn't help it.
نادى توم النادل واشتكى بأدب: «هذا حارّ جدًا ولا يمكن أكله.»
Tom called the waiter and complained politely: “This is too spicy to eat.”
بعد دقائق قليلة، خرج الطاهي بنفسه من المطبخ.
A few minutes later, the cook himself came out of the kitchen.

Chapter 3

أحضر كاري جديدًا وقدّم لهما الحلوى على حساب المطعم.
He brought a new curry and offered them dessert on the house.
بعد الطعام، جلس إلى طاولتهما وحدّثهما عن شبابه في الهند.
After the meal, he sat down at their table and told them about his youth in India.
عند المغادرة، ترك توم للنادل بقشيشًا سخيًّا.
When they left, Tom gave the waiter a generous tip.
منذ ذلك الحين يذهبان إلى هناك في كل ذكرى، لكن توم يطلب الآن دائمًا «قليل الحرارة».
Since then, they go there every anniversary, but Tom always asks for “mild” now.
