Chapter 1
Todos os verões, a Elif visita a avó numa pequena aldeia.
Every summer, Elif visits her grandmother in a small village.
A avó faz a melhor sopa de tomate do mundo.
Grandma makes the best tomato soup in the world.
Mas nunca diz o que leva. «É segredo», diz sempre.
But she never says what is in it. "It's a secret," she always says.
Este ano, a Elif faz dezoito anos. Finalmente, a avó diz: «Hoje vais aprender.»
This year, Elif is eighteen. Grandma finally says: "Today you will learn."
Põem o avental e vão para a cozinha.
They put on their aprons and go into the kitchen.

Chapter 2

Depois fritam tudo em azeite numa panela grande.
Then they fry everything in olive oil in a big pot.
Juntam tomate, água, sal e um pouco de açúcar.
They add tomatoes, water, salt and a little sugar.
«E agora, o segredo», sussurra a avó, e abre uma caixinha.
"And now the secret," Grandma whispers, and opens a small box.

A avó escreve a receita num cartãozinho e dá-lho.
Grandma writes the recipe on a small card and gives it to her.
«Agora o segredo é teu. Um dia, vais ensiná-lo aos teus netos.»
"Now the secret is yours. One day, you will teach it to your grandchildren."
