Chapter 1
Elif her yaz küçük bir köyde yaşayan büyükannesini ziyaret ediyor.
Every summer, Elif visits her grandmother in a small village.
Büyükannesi dünyanın en güzel domates çorbasını yapıyor.
Grandma makes the best tomato soup in the world.
Ama içinde ne olduğunu hiç söylemiyor. "Bu bir sır," der hep.
But she never says what is in it. "It's a secret," she always says.
Bu yıl Elif on sekiz yaşında. Büyükannesi sonunda "Bugün öğreneceksin," diyor.
This year, Elif is eighteen. Grandma finally says: "Today you will learn."
Önlüklerini takıp mutfağa giriyorlar.
They put on their aprons and go into the kitchen.

Chapter 2
Önce Elif iki soğan ve üç diş sarımsak doğruyor.
First, Elif cuts two onions and three cloves of garlic.

She cries a lot because of the onions. Grandma laughs.
Sonra hepsini büyük bir tencerede zeytinyağında kavuruyorlar.
Then they fry everything in olive oil in a big pot.
Domates, su, tuz ve biraz şeker ekliyorlar.
They add tomatoes, water, salt and a little sugar.
"Ve şimdi sıra sırda," diye fısıldıyor büyükanne ve küçük bir kutu açıyor.
"And now the secret," Grandma whispers, and opens a small box.

Chapter 3

Elif çorbanın tadına bakıyor. Tadı tıpkı çocukluğundaki gibi.
Elif tastes the soup. It tastes exactly like her childhood.
Büyükannesi tarifi küçük bir karta yazıp ona veriyor.
Grandma writes the recipe on a small card and gives it to her.
"Artık bu sır senin. Bir gün sen de torunlarına öğreteceksin."
"Now the secret is yours. One day, you will teach it to your grandchildren."
