Chapter 1
Cada verano, Elif visita a su abuela en un pueblo pequeño.
Every summer, Elif visits her grandmother in a small village.
Su abuela hace la mejor sopa de tomate del mundo.
Grandma makes the best tomato soup in the world.
Pero nunca dice lo que lleva. «Es un secreto», dice siempre.
But she never says what is in it. "It's a secret," she always says.
Este año, Elif cumple dieciocho. Por fin, su abuela le dice: «Hoy vas a aprender.»
This year, Elif is eighteen. Grandma finally says: "Today you will learn."
Se ponen el delantal y entran en la cocina.
They put on their aprons and go into the kitchen.

Chapter 2

Luego lo fríen todo en aceite de oliva en una olla grande.
Then they fry everything in olive oil in a big pot.
Añaden tomates, agua, sal y un poco de azúcar.
They add tomatoes, water, salt and a little sugar.
«Y ahora, el secreto», susurra la abuela, y abre una cajita.
"And now the secret," Grandma whispers, and opens a small box.

Grandma writes the recipe on a small card and gives it to her.
«Ahora el secreto es tuyo. Algún día se lo enseñarás a tus nietos.»
"Now the secret is yours. One day, you will teach it to your grandchildren."
